Please provide a description of your practice.

Sylvie Rockman is a divorce and family lawyer. She focuses her practice on complex financial matters and child custody matters, including cases related to the dissolution of marriage, property distribution, allocation of parental responsibilities and decision-making, post-decree modifications and enforcement, maintenance, child support, in addition to order of protection matters. Sylvie’s experiences working as a teacher in Chicago coupled with her personal experiences—as she herself is a product of divorce—motivated her to embark on a career in divorce and family law.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?

I joined WBAI to build community with other women lawyers in Illinois. I am eager to meet other women lawyers—both new attorneys like me and those well established in their careers. I have so much to learn from all of you!

What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?

I believe building mentorship relationships is one of the best ways to help empower women in law. Mentorship from attorneys, mediators, judges, and others in the legal community. It is critical to have a network of women lawyers who can provide guidance, share past experiences and help you navigate challenges you may face in your practice of law.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?

I am going to be riding 50 miles across New York City on October 19th for Bike MS, a ride that raises funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This organization has paved the way for every effective MS treatment available today. Tell us something interesting about you.

I have a 130+ lb. Leonberger pup named Ernie. Adventuring with Ernie around Chicago is my favorite way to unwind after a long day.
