Why are you a member of the WBAI?

I joined the WBAI to meet hard working women devoted to women’s issues. I am consistently inspired and encouraged by the intelligence, dedication, and professionalism of its members. It is also a great organization to meet other lawyers in your field, at your practice level, or with shared interests.

What is your definition of “having it all” OR What are the ways you try to achieve work/life balance?

I find the concept of “having it all” or “work/life balance” frustrating. I believe it is an unachievable goal. What I do believe is that you can have a beautiful family and a thriving practice and sometimes you will let them both down.  Once I accepted that and got over the idea of achieving a harmonious balance life got easier. I think it takes a dedication to prioritize daily, weekly, and yearly.  I also believe you need a team. I have two men in my life who make it possible for me to litigate while raising a family: my husband, Tim, and my law partner, Tim Whiting. Both support and encourage me and step-up when I need to be somewhere else. I think this is evidence that things will change more rapidly for women in the workplace when men are actively involved in the solution.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

I love Halloween and look forward to seeing all the costumes. I also am going to New York City in December to see Bruce Springsteen on Broadway.
