Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I’m a member of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) because I believe in the power of community, and I believe that surrounding yourself with smart, talented, and empowering women is essential for personal and professional growth.
What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?
Empowering women in law can come in all different forms. Empowerment can look like strong mentorship networks that connect women at all career stages. It can also look like access to different scholarships, job opportunities, and leadership roles. Empowerment also looks like creating space for all women in law, including those from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
I hope to meet new people and learn about different kinds of law through WBAI events.
Tell us something interesting about you.
Before starting law school, I worked as a staffer for U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth. I hope to continue working in public interest in the future, whether that be through pro bono work at a firm or through federal civil litigation at a government agency. As a first generation American, college student, and law student, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve been afforded in this country as a Pakistani woman. I hope to express this gratitude by being a strong advocate for others and by creating positive change in my communities.
