Luz María Toledo
Assistant State’s Attorney // Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office
Please provide a description of your practice.
For nearly 20 years, I have dedicated my career to public service with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. For the first 11 years, I did criminal prosecution, having tried hundreds of bench trials and motions and nearly 30 juries on charges ranging from narcotics to murder. Since 2018, I have been assigned to the real estate litigation section, where I do civil defense and represent Cook County in real estate property tax issues.
Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I joined WBAI because of the support, networking, and assistance the WBAI offers its members. As a first-generation Mexican-American woman attorney, I believe it is important to have a strong support system, and the WBAI provides just that.
What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?
The best way to empower women in law is to provide a strong network of support and foster mentorship to advance women’s roles in the legal field. It is important that we encourage each other and support one another so that we can all reach success.
What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
I am looking forward to continuing to make connections with people and watching my support group grow since I am currently running a county-wide judicial campaign in Cook County. I am also looking forward to continuing to mentor younger attorneys.
Also, I look forward to watching my 1-year-old son continue to grow, reach his milestones, and see how much he loves spending time with my parents.
Tell us something interesting about you.
I am a single mother of a wonderful one-year-old boy, thanks to IVF. My road to motherhood was not easy, but it was very empowering, and being a mother is the most rewarding role.
I am the only Latina judicial candidate endorsed by the Cook County Democratic Party countywide for the 2026 election.
