Litigation Attorney // Hughes, Socol, Piers & Dym, Ltd.

Description of your practice
I have over 13 years of experience in all aspects of litigation, including trials, arbitrations, mediation, settlement negotiations, regulation compliance and risk mitigation. I have worked in the Midwest and on the East Coast in both private practice and the public sector. My practice focuses on the defense of hospitals, nurses, and doctors in medical malpractice matters.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I practiced in Chicago for 2 years before moving to Washington, D.C. for a brief stint. When I came back to the city, I wanted to establish professional connections and joined a number of local bar associations and networking groups. WBAI offered a variety of programming, mentoring opportunities and leadership experiences. Beyond the obvious perks, I met several driven, amazing, and hilarious women who are excelling in the legal profession and formed lasting friendships.

What are the qualities you have seen and admired in a senior female attorney you know?
The female attorneys I admire most embrace their authenticity. Often women are told to change their behavior, appearance or personality to fit into the legal profession. I have always been drawn to mentors who hold on to their sense of self while navigating a male-dominated industry.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
If I could go to a concert this year, I would be over the moon. Hopefully sometime this year, it will be safe to go see live music.

Tell us something interesting about you.
I’m 6’2” and my height is normally the first thing people notice about me. But since I’ve been seated in front of a computer screen most of the year, my height has remained hidden most of the year.
