Attorney // Fisher Kanaris, P.C.

Please provide a description of your practice.

I am a civil defense attorney with a practice concentrated on commercial litigation, products liability, construction litigation, professional negligence, and general liability in both state and federal court.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?

The legal profession is difficult. It’s male dominated and can, at times, feel very isolating. It’s important to have access to a network of female attorneys for guidance, advice, networking, and friendship. As someone who has worked at law firms and in-house, it’s important, useful, and inspiring to have exposure to women leaders working in all aspects of the legal profession. My time in WBAI has helped me both professionally and personally.

What are the ways you try to achieve work/life balance?

Trust me: the struggle is real. But in all seriousness, as a single female attorney it’s important to fight the feeling that my personal time is not as important as my married colleagues or my colleagues with children.  For me, I’ve realized that I’m at my best professionally when I’m taking care of myself personally.  Thus, I calendar everything. Workouts, happy hours, volunteer events.  It all gets on the calendar and my life is better for it.

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

This is the summer of music festivals for me. I took the leap and bought a four-day pass to Lollapalooza and am committed to making it through the entire weekend. Additionally I’ll be attending a few other smaller music festivals this summer. Oh, and I’ll be hiking a mountain in Denver in July. The most I’ve done in terms of training is buying hiking boots and booking a plane ticket. Fingers crossed!

Tell us something interesting about you.

I’m 6’2″ – not sure if that qualifies as “interesting” but it sure does inspire a lot of questions. I’m asked every day about my height and whether I play basketball. For the record: I haven’t touched a basketball since I was 18.
