Attorney, Owner of Practice // The Law Office of Erin M Wilson LLC
Please provide a description of your practice.
We are a family law practice. My firm offers services in divorce litigation, mediation, and collaborative law, and I am appointed as a Guardian ad Litem/Child Representative and Parenting Coordinator. A lot of what we do is high conflict custody work, along with complex financial cases, as well as uncontested divorce cases, post decree work and prenuptial agreements. We have an amazing team of attorneys, clerks and our office manager.
Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I am a member of WBAI because it is an organization that truly supports & uplifts women, provides mentorship, has fun events with great people attending, and offers great CLE programming. Also, I enjoy WBAI because they are great to partner with as co-hosts and sponsors of other events and organizations that I am a part of such as Decalogue and the Womxn’s committee, Lady Lawyers who Lunch, FLASH and ISBA Standing Committee on Women and the Law.
What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?
The best way to empower women is to take chances on women who are committed to working hard and learning. It’s not always about experience, because you have to start somewhere. I also make it a point to never say no when a woman reaches out to me and wants to chat, whether it’s about going to law school, when they are in law school and exploring options, or as lawyers trying to excel in their field or open their own practice. We have to support each other, and there should be no concerns about competition because we are all in this together.
What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
Professionally, I always look forward to and enjoy seeing my team grow in their positions, both as lawyers/clerks representing clients and in the community. I love to see them take on leadership positions and request to do new types of work.
Personally, I am looking forward to an amazing European summer vacation with my husband while our kids are both at overnight camp. I will miss them a lot, but this will be an amazing distraction to go to France & Spain!
Tell us something interesting about you.
During covid, we built a house in Saugatuck, Michigan. It was not something we planned to do, but seemed like a good idea at the time. While the home was not done until “after covid,” my family has really enjoyed the time we spend in Saugatuck. We can work from there, our kids have gone to camp in Saugatuck, we have an amazing community of friends, and it’s such a special place where we spend time as a family.
