Please provide a description of your practice.

I am a partner and founder of Fitzpatrick Tarara Family Law, LLC. We are a full-service family law firm, representing individuals in pre- and post-decree divorce and paternity matters, orders of protection, second parent adoptions, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and other family law matters. In addition to having a litigation practice where I represent individuals in contested proceedings, I also serve as a Guardian ad Litem and Child Representative in contested domestic relations proceedings, where I am appointed to represent the best interests of the minor children of the family. I am also a mediator and parenting coordinator, assisting families to reach resolution outside of the courtroom.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?

I have been a member of the WBAI since I graduated from law school. At the beginning of my career, it was a wonderful way to make lifelong friends, meet lawyers across other practice areas, and gain opportunities for leadership. Now that I am more established in my career and have a family, I love the Legally Moms group and attending events where members get the opportunity to network and catch up with each other on a personal level.

What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?

MENTORSHIP! MENTORSHIP! MENTORSHIP! Build up people who surround you, whether it’s a superior that you are impressed with, or a young lawyer in whom you see potential. Take a young lawyer under your wing and take them to events. Introduce them to your network. Compliment people when they deserve it. I remember a pivotal moment early in my career when a more experienced colleague in our division told me that I was “fearless in the courtroom.” I certainly did not feel that about myself at the time, but knowing that others saw me in that way was an incredible boost of confidence.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?

I started 2026 by firming my law firm, Fitzpatrick Tarara Family Law, LLC, with my partner, Annemarie Tarara. Annemarie was a mentor to me as a young lawyer, became a co-worker at our previous firm, and is now my law partner. I am looking forward to seeing our new firm grow and continue to serve families in the Chicagoland area.  

Tell us something interesting about you.

My husband and I have two boys, who are the light of our lives. We’re raising our children in Chicago and love to explore the city and the world with them.
