Andrea Ramirez
Associate Attorney // Taxman, Pollock, Murray & Bekkerman, LLC
Please provide a description of your practice.
I am a personal injury attorney and my practice focuses primarily on healthcare facilities, including nursing homes and supportive living facilities, and medical malpractice. I’ve had the opportunity to handle a wide variety of cases and obtain significant settlements for my clients.
Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I believe that women should support women, especially in our field. WBAI brings together strong and brilliant women from different practice areas and gives us a platform to exchange ideas and practice tips in order to become better lawyers and people. I am part of WBAI because it is an organization of women who are passionate, driven, smart, and willing to help their fellow members in a professional and personal capacity. WBAI also provides invaluable networking, CLEs, and other opportunities that have helped me meet women who I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet and learn from.
What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?
The best way to empower women in law is through mentorship and advocacy. Although the legal community includes a lot more women than it did years ago, it is important to always make sure women have a seat or rather multiple seats, at the table and that our voices are heard. This is especially important for women from minority groups, like me, because visibility is important. I try to lead by example by making sure that I am available to mentor students and younger associates as well as join committees and boards where I can lend my voice as a woman and as a Hispanic attorney.
What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
Overall I am looking forward to a time where our lives are no longer consumed by worries about COVID-19.
Professionally, I am looking forward to continued learning from the amazing group of lawyers at my firm and hopefully a trial or two once the courts allow it.
Personally, I recently gave birth to my first child and I am looking forward to watching him grow and all of the milestones that come with that.
Tell us something interesting about you.
I am fluent in Spanish and I love to cook.
