Associate // Quarles & Brady LLP

Description of your practice:
I am a Commercial Litigation Associate at Quarles & Brady LLP. I represent clients in a variety of industries and business sectors, primarily on health law matters, insurance disputes, business torts, and commercial lease disputes. I also make pro bono a focus in my practice and many of my cases involve prisoner litigation ranging from mistreatment in prison to constitutional challenges to a state’s parole system as applied to juveniles sentenced to life in prison. The balance of corporate clients and pro bono clients keeps my practice interesting and diverse.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I am a member of WBAI because as a young, female litigator I felt that mentorship from other successful, female attorneys would be important to my own success. I am the first lawyer in my large, midwest-based family and had no real idea what the legal profession entailed before heading to law school. WBAI has helped introduce me to several amazing female attorneys and also provided great programming for me to connect to the Chicago-legal community at large.

What are the qualities you have seen and admired in a senior female attorney you know?
The first female attorney I really looked up to was my mentor when I was a summer associate at Quarles & Brady, Joy Johns. I immediately admired her confidence, positive attitude, and ability to get along with every person she dealt with. These qualities have proven so important in even just my first year as a lawyer. I have tried to embody the confidence she showed as I shadowed her in the courtroom, even in times where, on the inside, I may feel inexperienced.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
In the next year, I am really looking forward to the new opportunities I will have now that I am no longer a first-year attorney. I now have some base knowledge and expertise to work off of which will allow me to do more as a litigator and feel confident when doing so. I also look forward to continuing my learning and growth through WBAI’s mentorship program.

Tell us something interesting about you.
I picked up a “Covid hobby” of making my own resin earrings.
