Blaire Theuerkauf

Corporate Attorney // Metra

Please provide a description of your practice.

I am a corporate attorney at Metra (Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corporation). At Metra, I provide legal advice on a variety of different corporate matters, including but not limited to, legal compliance, ethics, contracts, employment, litigation, real estate, and risk evaluation.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?

I joined the WBAI for the community. I got involved as a 1L in law school with the goal to become more involved in the legal community and find female mentorship. Since joining, I have made multiple friends (many of them are also my mentors) and been a part of multiple committees and events. The WBAI has played a huge part in shaping my legal career. It has given me a sense of community and belonging, as well as, the confidence to chase my dreams.

I am honored to serve on the WBAI’s Board as a Director.

What do you think is the best way to empower women in law?

Mentorship.

I believe the best way to empower women in law is by reaching out and supporting younger lawyers and law students. Starting out, I always appreciated the women who took time out of their hectic schedules to speak at law schools or networking events about their legal experiences and achievements. By sharing their achievements, it gave me the confidence to know that I too could have similar accomplishments in my own career.

Now, after having a few years of practice under my belt, I enjoy answering questions and sharing my experiences with younger lawyers and law students. I know that I would not be where I was today without having the support of the women in my network. I think it is important for young lawyers and law students to have mentors they can lean on and feel comfortable asking questions.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?

I am excited to keep learning and growing this upcoming year, both professionally and personally. There are a lot of fun things in the works this year, and I am excited to see how they all play out.

Tell us something interesting about you.

In my spare time, I enjoy running and listening to podcasts by the lake. I also love trying new things and hanging out with friends and family.
