Member Monday: Meet Elizabeth A. Kaveny

Managing Partner, Kaveny + Kroll

Description of your practice:
The right law firm should not just take your case…they should take it to heart. We formed Kaveny + Kroll to fight for the best possible resolution, justice and compensation. Whether the case is in regards to medical malpractice, birth injury, incorrect diagnosis or a tragic accident or death due to a workplace injury or one of mass transportation, our firm has navigated thousands of cases and worked countless complex trials throughout the state.  Kaveny + Kroll is that firm with the experience and expertise of a trial team with countless verdicts in the favor of their clients and the largest personal injury verdict ever awarded in Illinois.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?
In my first year as an attorney in Chicago, I was the only female attorney, in an all-male law firm. I wanted to meet, interact and learn from other female attorneys. Joining the WBAI was one of the best moves I ever made as some of my best friends today are women I met through the WBAI years ago. The lifelong friendships were worth the price of the membership. The lessons I’ve learned and networking opportunities I have developed in over two decades are priceless.

What are the qualities you have seen and admired in a senior female attorney you know? Tell us about a story or time when being a female attorney was advantageous.
I have had the good fortune of being mentored by some of the legal giants in the Chicagoland area.  Lorna Propes and Patti Bobb are just two that come to mind.   I admired and respected them because of their unselfishness to impart their trial and life experiences to me over the course of my career.  I was mesmerized at how hard they prepared for depositions and trial and the successes they achieved, yet, they were always kind and respectful in their manner and presentation.  I could not help but want to emulate their career paths.

What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?As I recently opened the door of my brand new law firm with my partner and friend, Jeff Kroll, I am looking forward to drawing from past experiences to create a new firm with innovative ideas and the best and brightest talent we can find.  I am equally excited at wearing a couple of different hats with the new firm.  As Managing Partner, I am looking to grow the firm and allow us to continuously be recognized as one of the top firms in the City of Chicago and State of Illinois.  I also want to continue to mentor attorneys.  I find such satisfaction in being a sounding board for young attorneys.  As a trial lawyer, I want to continue to help injured victims of malpractice and negligence.  Above all else, as a parent, I want my children to be happy and safe and continue to follow their dreams.

Tell us something interesting about you.
I have been fortunate enough to skydive, explore ancient ruins in Rome, climb the Matterhorn in Switzerland, snorkel in breathtaking bodies of water but have experienced no greater beauty than in the faces of my four children every time I walk through the door at home at the end of a long day.  Travel is exhilarating.  Trials are rewarding.  Yet, seeing my kids and listening to their day? There is no greater victory in life.
