Miller Canfield, an international law firm with more than 200 attorneys and a widely respected management-side employment litigation and labor law practice, seeks an Employment and Labor Associate to join its office in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This position may initially be performed remotely or in a hybrid remote / in person capacity.
Our Chambers-ranked Employment and Labor group defends employers in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, FMLA, ADA, and wage and hour cases, including class action litigation. The group also prosecutes and defends non-compete litigation, and assists clients with collective bargaining and traditional labor matters, including defense of unfair labor practice charges. In addition, the group regularly counsels clients on all matters related to employment, including those related to hiring, discipline, discharge, time off, employee accommodations, harassment investigations, executive contracts and employee training.
Ideal candidates will have 2-4 years advising employers on compliance with state and federal employment laws, drafting and revising employment policies, working on harassment, discrimination, FMLA, ADA, retaliation, and wage and hour law matters. Candidates who also have experience taking depositions, arguing motions, preparing cases for trial, handling grievances, arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges and collective bargaining negotiations are strongly preferred. Successful candidates will have a strong academic record, excellent drafting and analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Must be licensed and in good standing in Michigan, or eligible for admission by examination or waiver.
