Job Title: Associate Attorney – Real Estate Group
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Hours: 1800 (minimum) client billable hours requirement; ability to service client needs when necessary
Reports to: Real Estate Group Head
The mid-level attorney will support a group of partners in HMB’s Real Estate Group, with a focus on commercial real estate transactions. The candidate will be involved in representation of owners of commercial real estate in connection with development, purchase, sale and financing of properties, as well as lenders in commercial loan transactions and landlords and tenants in connection with commercial leases. The candidate is responsible for drafting and negotiating real estate purchase and sale contracts, leases, loan documents, and closing documents, client and file management and legal research as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All aspects of maintaining client relationships including:Serving as the day-to-day contact person for ongoing client needs
Identifying and efficiently addressing client needs
Reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements
Maintaining and organizing client documents, transaction schedules and related follow up items.
Ability to coordinate and supervise complex real estate transactions.
Respond promptly and efficiently to internal and external client requests, seeking guidance from supervising Partners as needed.
Ability to take ownership of discrete projects and be able to work without direct supervision.
Strong written and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines, both on own and as part of a team.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Juris Doctor degree; licensed to practice law in IL.
4+ years of real estate experience in a law firm setting or in-house real estate practice.
Strong foundation in real estate purchases, sales, financing, and leasing.
