Fletcher & Sippel has an opportunity for an associate with 3-5 years of labor and employment
litigation experience to join the firm’s expanding Labor and Employment Group as a traditional
associate and take on an important role in litigation with direct contact with client representatives and
opposing counsels. Associate will also be called upon to contribute to general litigation group
defending personal injury and commercial litigation claims.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to, performing legal research, drafting of legal memoranda,
motions and other pleadings, attending court conferences, handling discovery-related activities,
investigations, and drafting of position statements and dispositive motions for labor, employment,
personal injury and commercial litigation matters.
Skills and Educational Requirements:
Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school. Qualified candidates must be and remain
licensed to practice law and in good standing in Illinois. During employment, must meet
requirements for continuing licensure for law practice. Additional jurisdictions a plus.
Outstanding academic record.
Excellent analytical and writing skills are required.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Candidate must have 3-5 years of employment litigation experience either in-house or at a
law firm as a licensed attorney. The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in
traditional labor. Traditional labor and employment litigation experience includes, but is not
o representing employers in proceedings, union avoidance, collective bargaining and labor
arbitration under the Railway Labor Act and/or the National Labor Relations Act.
o Training and counseling clients concerning traditional labor issues, assisting with
grievance arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, and policy drafting.
o Direct and independent client counseling of in-house attorneys, human resources
professionals, and managers on a wide array of labor and employment issues, including
individual terminations, reductions in force (including adverse impact analyses and
OWBPA disclosures), compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and
regulations (including ADA, FMLA, FLSA, WARN, and whistleblower and anti-retaliation
laws), classification of workers as employees or independent contractors, mergers and
acquisitions, and internal investigations.
o Drafting and negotiating employment agreements, restrictive covenant agreements,
employment policies, and separation and release agreements.
The candidate must be an excellent writer with finely honed analytical skills, able to handle multiple
matters with independence and sound judgement, and able to work effectively and efficiently with
other attorneys and staff inside and outside of the Labor and Employment Group. Some travel is
