Melanie VanOverloop is a trial lawyer at Rapoport Weisberg & Sims where she focuses her practice on catastrophic injury and wrongful death litigation. Melanie has been elected by her peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer Rising Star every year since 2014, a distinction that is limited to 2.5 percent of the attorneys within Illinois. She has further been recognized as an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers magazine every year since 2015. 

Melanie has been a WBAI Board of Director since 2018 and she currently serves as the Recording Secretary. She is co-chair of the WBAI Newsletter and Judicial Evaluation Committee and serves on the Membership Committee. During her tenure as a member of the WBAI, Melanie has chaired the Civil Litigation Committee, Judicial Reception Committee, Top Women Lawyers in Leadership Committee, Golf Outing Committee and has served on numerous Annual Dinner and Judicial Reception committees. Melanie is also active in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.

Melanie earned her undergraduate degree at Purdue University before obtaining her Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law with a Certificate in Advocacy. 

Melanie is an avid Chicago sports fan, enjoys sailing Lake Michigan in the summers and spending time with her young daughters Ellie and Abby, her husband David and their golden retriever Roxie.
