WBAI Statement on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

The Board of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois is deeply disappointed in the majority’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and strip women of their hard-fought constitutional right to decide not to bear a child.  The Supreme Court’s decision overturns almost 50 years of jurisprudence guaranteeing a person’s constitutional right to abortion.   People have exercised and relied on this right to individual liberty and bodily autonomy in order to plan their families and their futures.   The WBAI has always recognized that guaranteeing a woman’s right to plan a family is essential to the advancement of women in our profession.  While the specifics of the Court’s 200+ page ruling will be discussed among the WBAI Board over the coming hours and days, it is clear that the majority’s opinion is riddled with misogyny.
