WBAI stands together against hate

The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community to condemn the violent attacks of March 16, 2021.  Furthermore, WBAI acknowledges the racist, misogynistic, and xenophobic behaviors the AAPI community has suffered for over a century. These most recent attacks represent an extension of long-standing anti-Asian bias, discrimination, and history, which we must work collectively to confront and end. Our condolences to the family and friends of Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim, Yong Ae Yue, Delaina Ashley Yaun, Paul Andre Michels, Xiaojie Tan, and Daoyou Feng, and we extend our sympathy to all who have experienced anti-Asian sentiments or feeling targeted and fearful in this moment.

WBAI commits itself and calls upon the legal community and community-at-large to fight these racist behaviors and stereotypes by providing pro bono services, engaging the community, and educating our membership to fight against these injustices. Education is one of the strongest tools in the fight against racism and ignorance. In honor of the diversity and richness of the AAPI community, please join the WBAI in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May.
