On July 24, the WBAI Domestic Relations Committee presented a CLE in its continuing effort to present thoughtful and discussion-provoking content for family law practitioners. WBAI, in collaboration with the Lady Lawyers Who Lunch, focused this event on the pursuit of attorney’s fees in domestic relations cases. The CLE was well-attended and featured Judges James Shapiro, Patricia Fallon, Maritza Sullivan and Bernadette Barrett of Cook County, to discuss fact patterns practitioners often encounter relative to interim fee awards, contribution to fees, and 508(b) fees after findings of contempt. Participants and judges dissected the differences between these types of statutory fees that can be awarded in domestic relations cases under the IMDMA. There was such a robust round table that a second CLE on attorney’s fees to further delve into the topic will be forthcoming. Stay tuned!
