The Green Book & Solidarity Awards

Thank you to everyone who joined the Decalogue Society of Lawyers, Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, Cook County Bar Association, North Suburban Bar Association, IJC, Jewish Judges Association of Illinois, and Asian Judges Association for “The Green Book” CLE & Solidarity Awards presentation on February 5th at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center

The Negro Motorist Green Book highlights the history of “The Green Book,” the annual guide created in 1936 by Harlem postman Victor Green, that provided African American travelers with information on restaurants, gas stations, department stores and other businesses that welcomed Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. The exhibition included artifacts from business signs and postcards, historic footage, images, and firsthand accounts that illustrate not just the apprehension felt by African American travelers, but also the resilience, innovation, and elegance of people choosing to live a full American existence.
Congratulations to all the honorees, Justice Neville, Judge Abbey Fishman Romanek, Senator Fine, and Congressman Rush. Thank you to Dr. Adam Green for the very informative program.
