Much Shelist, P.C. // Associate Attorney
Description of your practice:
I am a transactional attorney focusing on commercial real estate matters in my firm’s Real Estate group. I help clients with everything from acquisitions and dispositions to leasing and financing. My practice primarily involves multifamily, industrial, retail and shopping center, office, medical, and mixed-use property types.
Why are you a member of the WBAI?
I have been involved as a member of the WBAI ever since law school because I sought a supportive network of women in a male-dominated profession. The WBAI fosters an environment where women could seek mentorship, camaraderie, and the promotion of women’s rights and interests. I am grateful for the relationships I have made through the WBAI, and I look forward to meeting more amazing women in the future.
What are the qualities you have seen and admired in a senior female attorney you know?
I have been fortunate to have worked with a number of amazing female attorneys, and I work hard to live up to their standards. They are strong and driven. They have the uncanny ability to simultaneously see the big picture while keeping an eye toward the details that everyone else misses. They are incredible leaders, who can apply a soft touch or a firm hand depending on the needs of the situation. They are well-known and well-liked but remain humble and grounded. To me, they are superwomen, and I am forever grateful for their mentorship.
What are you most looking forward to in the following year, personally/professionally?
I am looking forward to co-chairing the WBAI Diversity Committee this year. My fellow co-chairs and I have been planning a diversity webinar series (adapting to the constraints of the pandemic) that is kicking-off in September, and we will be featuring a number of prominent figures in the legal community as well as distinguished speakers. We will foster important conversations on topics such as diversity and race and discussing special issues facing women in navigating the pandemic in the workplace. I encourage all of my fellow WBAI members to attend – stay tuned for details!
Tell us something interesting about you.
I double-majored in Art History and Economics in college. Although I pursued a very different route in becoming a real estate attorney, I remain an art enthusiast, particularly in modern and contemporary art. None of my trips is ever complete until I visit at least one art museum.
