Member Monday Profile: Lauren Tuckey Murray

Employment Attorney | The Bellows Law Group

Description of your practice:
I enjoy counseling clients on employment matters including new-hire contracts, severance agreements and claims involving sexual harassment, gender discrimination, disability, etc.

Why are you a member of the WBAI?
Like anything in life, you get out what you put in, and the Women’s Bar has been no exception. There were times I needed business referrals, a job opportunity, or the support of a friend or mentor who understands the experience of being a female litigator. The Women’s Bar has provided all three in spades, changing the trajectory of my career. I am involved in other great professional organizations, but the Women’s Bar will always be my “home base.”

What are the ways you try to achieve work/life balance?
Today, women have the luxury of sustaining families, friendships, interesting hobbies, as well as advanced careers. I think there are stages in life that demand imbalance, where one area requires more time than another. When I first started practicing, for example, I billed as much as I could to learn and build a name for myself. Over time, I found that I could rely on my knowledge and the confidence of my superiors that I generated, in order to spend more time outside of the office. Working hard early on provided me with flexibility as I needed it.

What are you most looking forward to in 2018?
I look forward to eating at fun new restaurants, snuggling lots of animals at PAWS Adoption Center, helping clients successfully navigate through career changes, improving my tennis game and starting a family with my husband, plaintiff’s personal injury attorney Sean Murray.

Tell us something interesting about you.
I rely on my hobbies to keep life interesting. I went to culinary school for fun, and have launched a recipe blog at simplesavant.com.
