The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois congratulates Justice P. Scott Neville, Jr. on his selection as the 123rd Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. His three-year term begins October 26, 2025, following an installation ceremony on October 24 in Chicago.
Justice Neville will be only the second Black Chief Justice in Illinois history, following the late Justice Charles E. Freeman. A lifelong advocate for equal justice, he has emphasized that public trust in the courts requires accessibility, fairness, and support for all litigants.
Justice Neville has served as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge, Appellate Court Justice, and Illinois Supreme Court Justice since 2018. His historic career includes prosecuting the 1992 Chicago Ward “Re-Map” case alongside R. Eugene Pincham and former President Barack Obama.
The WBAI celebrates Justice Neville’s leadership and looks forward to his tenure as Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court.
