On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, the WBAI was proud to present the Hon. Mary Heftel Hooton Award to its 5 honorees at its 25th Annual Judicial Reception. The event was held at the Chicago Cultural Center and honored the following judges:
Hon. Janet Adams Brosnahan, Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division
Hon. Maryam Ahmad, Circuit Court of Cook County, Pretrial Division
Hon. Mary M. Rowland, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
Hon. Sanjay T. Tailor, Illinois First District Appellate Court
Hon. James P. Flannery, Jr. (awarded posthumously), Fmr. Presiding Judge Circuit Court of Cook County, Law Division
The Mary Heftel Hooton Award is given annually to sitting and retired judges in recognition of their leadership, professionalism and efforts in advancing women in the law. The award’s namesake, Judge Hooton, served as president of the WBAI in 1976, when she was elected to the bench in the Circuit Court of Cook County, and established herself as a protector of the rights of children and an advocate for the advancement of women in the legal profession.
Congratulations to our awardees and thank you to all who attended this year’s Judicial Reception. A very special thank you to our Judicial Reception co-chairs, Soobin Lee, Katie Twardack, Caidi Vanderporten and Molly Wells, for leading the Judicial Reception committee in another extremely successful event. We would also like to thank our generous sponsors, without whom the evening wouldn’t have been possible. We hope you will join us again next year!
