Immigration Enforcement Symposium for Pro Bono Attorneys

Responding to the New Immigration Enforcement Landscape: A Symposium for Pro Bono Attorneys

Lincoln Hall – Levy Mayer Room 104

357 East Chicago Avenue

Chicago, IL 60611

The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) and our cosponsors–American Immigration Lawyers Association, Council on American Islamic Relations Chicago, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and Northwestern Pritzker Law School–will host an afternoon-long symposium for lawyers seeking to provide pro bono support to immigrants and refugees facing immigration enforcement and deportation. Due to the administration’s recent executive orders, all undocumented immigrants are at risk of deportation and immigration enforcement actions are likely to increase. Now, more than ever, the legal community must come together to ensure immigrants have access to representation and information about their rights. During the program, we will cover:

  • An overview of the recent executive orders related to immigration enforcement
  • Strategies to respond to immigration raids and enforcement actions
  • Best practices for representing detained immigrants seeking release from detention
  • A guide for becoming an immigrant ally in your community
  • Opportunities to provide legal representation to NIJC clients

We ask that attendees commit to representing an NIJC client pro bono or participating in community engagement through NIJC within six months.
