
Marla Izbicky is an associate attorney at HMB Legal Counsel. Marla is a member of HMB’s Business & Finance and Technology and Intellectual Property groups and concentrates her practice on transactions and general corporate matters. She is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) with a focus on data privacy and cybersecurity. Marla’s data privacy work ranges from advising on how to handle requests for removal of personal data to creating comprehensive data privacy and cybersecurity policies and programs and ensuring GDPR and CCPA compliance in multi-million-dollar mergers. Marla also advises clients on a range of matters related to their transactions, business structure, formation, ownership, governance and partnerships. She also provides assistance in the drafting and negotiating of a variety of agreements related to day-to-day operations and has litigated cases in state and federal courts nationwide on issues including breach of contract, defense against restrictive covenants, trade secret litigation and intentional interference with future economic gain.
Marla currently serves as the Recording Secretary of the WBAI, and was sworn in as a Director of the WBAI in 2020. She has served as a chair of the Judicial Reception and Civil Litigation committees. She is also the Advertising Editor and a member of the WBAI’s Hooton Committee. In addition to her service to the WBAI, Marla is also a mentor through the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago (LAGBAC). She also volunteers as a pro bono attorney through Legal Aid Chicago, ADAPT (Advanced Directives and Property Transfers), drafting Powers of Attorney for Health Care and Property, Living Wills, and Transfer on Death Instruments for Chicago residents.
Marla received her Juris Doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. While at Cardozo, Marla was an Articles Editor for the Arts and Entertainment Law Journal and her note, “A Legislative Pendency Proposal to Address the Consumer Harm Caused by the Broken Retransmission System,” was published in that same journal. Marla was a finalist in the Langfan Oratorical Competition at Cardozo Law. Marla also served as a Research Assistant to Professor Marci A. Hamilton. Prior to law school, Marla attended Brandeis University, where she graduated cum laude, with honors. Marla lives in Ukrainian Village with her wife, Nicole, and their dog Benson and cat Bartlet.
