Financial Secretary

Katherine Twardak

Katherine (“Katie”) Twardak is an associate at Tomasik Kotin Kasserman, LLC, where she practices in all areas of plaintiff’s personal injury and wrongful death matters, including medical negligence, transportation negligence, construction negligence, premises liability, and products liability.

Katie earned her undergraduate degree from Boston College in 2006, her master’s degree in Education from Dominican University in 2009, and her law degree from Loyola University School of Law in 2014 with a certificate in Advocacy. While at Loyola, Katie was chosen to be a member of the Corboy Fellowship in Trial Advocacy, an intensive trial advocacy training program awarded to only the top advocates at the Loyola.

After graduating from Loyola, Katie began her legal career at Johnson & Bell, Ltd., where she was a member of the health care group and represented hospitals and health care providers in medical negligence matters, during which she gained invaluable knowledge about medicine through her work with clinicians. While there, Katie served as a member of the Women’s Initiative and the Associate Liaison Committee.

Katie currently serves as the WBAI Financial Secretary, and was sworn in as a Director of the WBAI in May of 2020.

Katie is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois. She has consistently been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star, a distinction that is limited to fewer than 2.5% of attorneys in Illinois.

Katie is a member of the Mercy Home for Boys & Girls Leader Council, and, until recently, mentored a Mercy Home youth through its tutoring program. She also serves as a member of the Lawyers Lend-A-Hand Associate Board, through which members of our Chicago legal community provide mentoring and tutoring resources to Chicago’s at-risk youth.
