Colleen Mixan Mikaitis
Colleen Mixan Mikaitis is a trial attorney, and while primarily concentrating her practice in the area of medical malpractice, sexual abuse and assault, and nursing home abuse litigation, she has worked on behalf of victims of negligence in all types of personal injury and wrongful death matters. Before founding Mixan Mahony, LLC with her partner Mackenzie “Mac” Mahony, Colleen practiced in catastrophic personal injury litigation at two other prominent Plaintiff’s personal injury firms in Chicago.
Colleen has been recognized in the legal community as a force to be reckoned with and was named by Chicago Law Bulletin as one of their “40 Illinois Attorneys under 40 to watch” in 2018. The award is bestowed upon the top “40 Under Forty” Illinois attorneys under the age of 40, for their outstanding achievements on behalf of clients, their contributions to the legal profession, and their commitment to their community. Super Lawyers Magazine has also honored Colleen by selecting her as an “Illinois Rising Star” consecutively from 2015, through 2020, and an “Illinois Super Lawyer” from 2024, through 2027.
During law school at John Marshall Law School, Colleen completed an externship with federal judge John W. Darrah in the Northern District of Illinois, was named to the Dean’s list for several consecutive terms and received a CALI Award. Her experiences influenced her decision to pursue a career in personal injury litigation and taught her the importance of nurturing client relationships. “I enjoy getting to know my clients so I can better understand how their lives have been affected by their injury or loss of a loved one. These bonds motivate me to achieve the best possible outcomes for each of my clients.”
Colleen grew up and currently resides on the south side of Chicago, where she attended Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School and where she and her husband are raising their three children in the St. Barnabas Parish. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Political Science. Colleen is actively involved in her community and has served on A New Direction’s (AND) Board of Directors starting in 2019 and on their Leadership Council once AND merged with WINGS in July of 2022, raising awareness and combatting domestic violence.
