Influence on Legislation: The Fight Against Caller ID without Free Call Blocking

The WBAI voted to oppose “Caller ID” without free call blocking.  It sent written testimony to the Illinois Commerce Commission and issued letters to the editor, which sparked a spirited debate in the Sun Times.  Carole Siegel, the President of the WBAI at that time, sent a letter to the Editor of Today’s Chicago Woman which was printed stating that, “The WBAI’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to oppose caller id without free blocking and had provided the Illinois Commerce Commission with written testimony on our position.”
